From Bruges to Flanders Fields
The trenches of World War I are just an hour from Bruges.
Ypres is about 70km south of Bruges. The In Flanders Fields Museum in the Cloth Hall is one of the best war museums in the world.
The Menin Gate Memorial bears the names of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers. Every evening at 8pm, the Last Post ceremony is held.
The Tyne Cot Cemetery near Passchendaele is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the world. Several tour operators in Bruges run day trips for about €60-80 per person.
